While the “erotic consciousness” described in the book is mostly that of the author, such consciousness absorbs or intersects with the erotic consciousness of others, so that one understands erotic consciousness as something larger than the individual mind that it suffuses and disturbs. The book contains several erotic fantasy stories involving different first person (male and female) points of view; several autobiographical recollections of erotic experiences; many amateur erotic drawings and watercolors with commentary, as well as numerous other images; a detailed analysis of Gustav Machaty’s film Ecstasy (1933); a lengthy, autobiographical account of “an erotic life in the 1970s”; and essays that speculate theoretically on aspects of erotic/pornographic thinking, including discussion of such books as Paul Morand’s novel Hecate et ses chiens (1954) and the German sexual encyclopedia Eros Wörterbuch (1823).
